Excellence, farming the way it was designed

15 hectares of macadamias and 17 hectares of avocados, farmed holistically in the foothills of the Hansfontein mountains beneath the Wolkberg wilderness.

Our farm

A standard of excellence, farmed holistically

Hillside Agri strives to maintain a standard of excellence, farming in a holistic way. Our farm has 17 hectares of avocados and 15 hectares of macadamias, set in the foothills of the Hansfontein mountains and overlooking the upper Drakensberg Wolkberg wilderness area, with stunning views.

The farm boasts beautiful indigenous forests full of birdlife, with a 4 km hiking trail meandering through the forest beside running rivers and springs — a peaceful place where good farming and unspoilt nature sit side by side.

Sustainable by conviction

Following the design of the first Gardener

We make our own composts and organic plant foods and farm in a sustainable way, using few pesticides and chemicals. We grow cover crops and work to enhance the life of the soil.

In all of this we try to copy the original design of the Master Farmer — God, who planted the first garden in Eden. We copy our heavenly Father’s ways of minimum-wastage farming: working smaller areas to a high standard, reducing input costs and increasing yields. The resulting high-quality fruit and vegetables are full of vitamins, carotenoids and flavonoids, according to God’s original design.

A living heritage

Preserving creation as it was made

We have preserved the natural bush and forests as a heritage of God’s wonderfully complex, awe-inspiring creation that displays his glory. Rather than clearing it, we farm the other areas to a high standard — copying our heavenly Father, who has laid out all the principles of how to farm clearly in the forests of the most biodiverse ecosystems of the world.

Growing food, teaching Farming God’s Way

On the farm we have a model garden where we grow maize and vegetables, and where we teach how to farm Farming God’s Way — using six principles that God has shown us in the most biodiverse ecosystems of the world, where the land has been left untouched by man.
